Do what makes you happy ...
How often we hear these words, how often do we SAY these words and yet sometimes it feels as if we are being so cautious and worrying so much about what others think, that we can forget what truly makes us happy and free.
Often we start off free, perhaps as children or when we are younger in life, a time period where we can care a little less in what others think and feel freer without the weight of judgement on our shoulders. We then can move into a period of reflection a time where we may not feel so free or liberated or indeed maybe hesitant to be ourselves, wondering who we are.
We live in a fast paced world, you only have to switch on social media where it seems everyone has an opinion and judgement is offered whether it is asked for or required. Truthfully if we are to take this so seriously we may never do anything.
I can only comment on life as myself. Living this human life I have experienced both extremes, having experienced times of self liberation but other times where I have lived with self caution. I hope I am starting to come full circle and am settling where I need to be.
As I reflect upon my youth it feels I did not care so much (before days of social media it felt freer or perhap that is my rose tinted glasses), if I wanted to do something I would just do it anyway and worry later. As I got older caution and hesitancy settled in, fear of judgement created procrastination which led to a phase of pulling inwards. But here is the thing people have their thoughts and opinions regardless of whether we do or do not take action. Those that love us will love us wholeheartedly and that is more than enough. If we don't take a few risks in life then how can we grow?
There is nothing like death to make us re-evaluate life, my precious Nan passed to spirit quite unexpectedly last year, two days before my birthday and I was devastated. Despite having felt her presence close quite a few times I miss her terribly. She inspired me and still does, she was kind and funny and didn't worry what others thought, she loved life and she always used to say
"Ah Debra do what YOU want" - so true we don't have to have it all sorted we just have to enjoy life while trying to fathom it out.
Today I was gardening one of my favourite things in the world to do and it started raining very heavily. I kept going by the end of it, I was throughly soaked and very muddy but I felt so free, it reminded of when I was just five with my Nan, she bought me an umbrella and I danced in the rain so much the umbrella broke and I was soaked through to the skin, she always said it was worth it all to see me dance so freely. Today I dancing with nature, in my happy place doing what made me happy and what more can I ask?
So my question to you is - what are you waiting for to start to dance to your beat? We don't have to be perfect or have the rhythm figured out we just have to DANCE and dance freely , we have to live our lives as we want to. It is a sad fact of life there will always be criticism but instead of worrying about it, know that there too are always cheerleaders, who will love us regardless and through the craziness.
So this year as I approach my 50th birthday in the autumn, I promised myself that I would move further into my own soul energy and do what makes me happy, sometimes a little bit uncomfortable and a bit scared, as thats where the growth happens, but most of all to live and to live in the centre of my life not hiding on the sidelines.
So where ever you are in your life and whatever you are doing, life invites you to work towards making yourself happy and dancing to the heartbeat of your own rhythm.
Go for it! Choose to embrace yourself and be your own choreographer because the rhythm of your soul was never meant to be shadowed by others.
Don't worry about being misunderstood by others when you are growing. Just grow"
